Highland NY, if you haven’t been here what are you waiting for?

The weekend ahead will be a fun packed one in Highland. The annual Columbus Day weekend on the Hudson Valley Rail Trail and Walkway over The Hudson will be bigger this year with four separate events packed into the weekend.

The weekend kicks off on Friday October 11 from 7:00-9:00 with the Moonwalk on the Hudson Valley Rail Trail. There will be a bonfire with a storyteller. The Highland High School Theatre Club will sponsor a walk through local history. Refreshments of cider and donuts will be served. Admission is $5.00 with children under 6 free.

An “Evening Under the Stars”, will be held on Saturday October 12 at the Would Bar from 6:00-10:00. Dancing, hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be enjoyed by all. There will be a live band and a silent auction. Cost is $80 per person.

On the 13th the HudsonFest will be held from 10:00-5:00. The event celebrates the season and the area.  Various vendors will participate and food and refreshments are available.

On Columbus Day, October 14th, there will be a walk to raise money for the restoration of the two Rail Trail cabooses. “Move Your Caboose” is a 1.25 to 2.5 mile walk that will start Rail Trail entrance in Highand on New Paltz Road. Cost to participate is $15- ages 12 and under, $20 over 12.

Make Highland your destination, this weekend.  See the fall foliage, walk the Walkway over the Hudson, stop by Frannie Reese Park, visit the local farms and join the festivities on the Hudson Valley Rail Trail.
